DataScouting is happy to be part of the digitization project of the 140-years old newspaper archive of the Press Information Office (PIO) in Cyprus.

The contract for the digitization of another 500.000 pages of the PIO newspaper archive was signed in Nicosia earlier this week. The archive dates back to 1878. Furthermore, it contains Greek, English and Turkish language newspaper publications published in Cyprus.

S. Kaniklides Ltd  has been awarded the contract. DataScouting will work with S. Kaniklides to provide the software for the clipping and documentation of the digital collection. Additionally, DataScouting will also install and customize the OMEKA publishing and display platform of cultural heritage.

Specifically, the project aims at: a) preserving the historical content of the newspaper archive for use by future generations; and b) allowing direct access to the digitized archives to students, researchers and the public.

This project is partially funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The project is expected to be completed within ten months.

DataScouting has successfully completed similar projects with academic libraries in Greece, such as the Library and Information Centre of the University of Thessaly and the Library and Information Centre of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
